3rd Visegrad Symposium on Structural Systems Biology is the continuation of previous succesful conferences organized by the four Visegrad countries. The aim of the organizers of the first symposium was to follow the tradition of previously organized meetings in the field of computational simulations and spectroscopy of biologically relevant systems. The organizers of the 3rd Symposium which is also sponsored by the Visegrad fund, C4Sys - Center for Systems Biology in the Czech Republic, and ISBE - Infrastructure of Systems Biology in Europe, focus on the same goal.

The 3rd Visegrad symposium on structural systems biology as scientific meeting in the field of computational simulations and spectroscopy of biologically relevant systems, follows the tradition of previously two Visegrad symposia organized in 2011 in Nove Hrady, Czech Republic and in 2012 in Gyöngyöstarján, Hungary as well as "Mini-symposia on computation of interactions in biological systems" meetings, that were held in 2009 in Nove Hrady, Czech Republic and in 2010 in Szeged, Hungary. One of the main topics of the conference will focus on various computational methods used in the study of biologicaly relevent macromolecules ranging from quantum calculations via atomistic models to coarse-grained moleculer dynamics of biological systems. The other main topic will focus on experimental techniques, mainly spectrosopic methods, that complement the simulations or can be used for verification. Apart of the scientists from the partner institutions in Hungary, Poland, Czech Reoublic and the Slovakia, researchers from Great Britain, Garmany and Austria have confirmed their participation. We belive that not only the formal presentations (both oral and poster) but also less formal scientific discussions will allow participants to create a basis for future research collaborations. We also believe that the unique setting in the chateau with common accomodation and boarding of all the participants makes social contacts easier and helps to further emphasize the collaborative atmoshphere of the conference.

On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to wish all participants to enjoy our conference in Smolenice. We sincerely hope that the pleasant time you will spend during the conference will be further enhanced by the beautiful environment of the castle and its surroundings.
